A Word from Archbishop of Chicago

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

The 2011 Annual Catholic Appeal has raised over $16,200,000 thus far, continuing the generosity that has characterized the response to the Appeal in recent years. Even in these difficult economic times, we have worked together to raise the funds for the critical work of the agencies and ministries of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Congratulations to each of you—pastors, parish staff members and Annual Catholic Appeal Committee members for the leadership you provide.

I am also pleased to share the good news that many parishes exceeded their goals this year, resulting in rebates to date of nearly $2,400,000! This year’s Annual Catholic Appeal in the Archdiocese of Chicago has as its theme words drawn from Saint Paul: Be imitators of Christ! Because we are his Body, we can truly participate in his generous, compassionate, and healing care of humanity and the world itself.

We come to know Christ by spending time with him in prayer, at Mass, and by reading the Scriptures. We learn to work with Christ by bringing his love to those who are suffering from loneliness, illness, and ignorance. Through the agencies and ministries of the Archdiocese supported by the Annual Appeal, we act with Christ in bringing reconciliation and healing to this ailing world. We welcome, serve, and support our brothers and sisters on their journey to God. This Appeal helps to sustain Catholic schools, parishes, religious education, ministerial formation, and initiatives for life, peace, and justice. And through it support of Catholic Relief Services, the Appeal serves people worldwide, without regard for religious affiliation, whose lives are devastated by natural disasters, wars and famines.

I trust that each of you share my confidence in the willingness of your parishioners to fund these goals. That is why I ask that in 2012 you continue to work with renewed confidence and thoroughness that will inspire past contributors to renew and increase their support, and engage even more of our parishioners as participants.

Estimados hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

La Campana Católica Anual 2011 ha recaudado al día de hoy mas de $16,200,000. lo cual muestra la continuación de la generosidad que ha caracterizado la respuesta a la Campana el los últimos anos. Incluso en estos tiempos de dificultades económicas, hemos trabajado juntos para recaudar los fondos que sostienen el trabajo vital de las agencias y ministerios de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago. Felicitaciones a cada un de ustedes—a los pastores, al personal de la parroquia y a los miembros del Comité de la Campana Católica Anual por el liderazgo que han aportado.

También me complace compartir la buena noticia de que muchas parroquias excedieron sus metas este ano, lo cual ha dado lugar a rembolsos que hasta la fecha suman ¡cerca de $2,400,000 dólares!

Este ano, la Campana Católica Anual en la Arquidiócesis de Chicago tiene como tema palabras tomadas de San Pablo: Sean imitadores de Cristo. Porque gracias a que somos su Cuerpo, realmente podemos participar en el cuidado generoso, compasivo y curativo que el hace de la humanidad y del mundo mismo.

Llegamos a conocer a Cristo cuando pasamos tiempo con el en la oración, en la Misa o mediante la lectura de las Escrituras. Aprendemos a trabajar con Cristo llevando su amor a aquellos que sufren de soledad, enfermedad e ignorancia. A través de las agencias y reconciliación y la sanación a este mundo enfermo. Damos la bienvenida, servimos y apoyamos a nuestros hermanos y hermanas en su camino hacia Dios. Esta Campana ayuda en el sostén de las escuelas católicas, las parroquias, la educación religiosa, la formación ministerial y las iniciativas por las vida, la paz y la justicia. A través de su apoyo a Catholic Relief Services, la Campana ayuda a personas en todo el mundo, sin importar su afiliación religiosa, cuyas vidas se han visto devastadas por los desastres naturales las guerras y las hambrunas.

Confió en que cada uno de ustedes comparte mi confianza en la voluntad de sus feligreses para financiar estos objetivos. Por eso les pido que en el 2012 continúen este trabajo con renovada confianza y con la rigurosidad que inspire a los contribuyentes pasados a renovar y aumentar su apoyo y que haga que un numero mayor de sus feligreses se involucren y participen.
